Wondersource’s Takeaways from the Health Optimisation Summit

Wondersource had an amazing time at the Health Optimisation Summit in London this weekend. We heard from some of the top doctors and leaders in health and connected with innovative founders and teams.

We enjoyed every talk we had the opportunity to attend and some of our highlights were Zach Bush MD, Jim Kwik, JJ Virgin and Ben Greenfield.

Here are some of our favourite takeaways:

  • Strength really matters. Instead of age gracefully, we should aim to age powerfully. If you increase your strength, you lower your rate of aging. Low grip strength is linked with accelerated aging

  • Question everything when it comes to your health, the healthcare system is not set up to prevent or heal issues naturally

  • Your armpit should be a cave not a puff. If it’s a puff you’re not detoxing

  • Too many women of menstruating age aren’t getting their periods and they need to in order to detox effectively, get support if this is you

  • Connect to your sense of gratitude. From doctors who’ve seen it all, you can’t imagine what a gift it is to be alive

  • Physical inactivity is the 4th leading cause of death—aim for at least 8k steps daily and add exercise “snacks.” Consider going for a walk around the block between calls when working from home, doing sit ups or squats, or taking the stairs when you have the opportunity

  • One of the easiest tools to reduce inflammation is to move regularly

  • Fundamentals like de-stressing, sleep, diet (adequate protein), kind self talk and spending time with loved ones and in nature are crucial

  • Hydrate. If you’re dehydrated by 5% your mental performance decreases by 30%

  • Be mindful of toxins by choosing clean products as much as possible and note spraying perfume on could be causing hormonal imbalances

  • There’s no such thing as a good or bad memory. Memory is a skill. It gets better with training. Beliefs matter so much

  • Embrace a minimum of 30 minutes of silence by yourself each week

  • To heal, we need to release judgement of ourselves and others, let the light in and connect with our innate sense of abundance (in the blue zones people may not have much but they pull up a chair to welcome people for dinner and feel blessed at the opportunity to give something!)

  • In relationships, address conflicts by expressing your feelings. I feel... (for example, I feel lonely when you come home late every night)

  • If you struggle with sleep, try using only candles for a couple of nights at home or a red light lamp when you travel

Which takeaway resonates the most?
